The 2013 Leaders in Racing conference, returning for its 3rd annual event at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea FC today, announced its official launch with a ground-breaking agenda that is set to outline the vision for the international horseracing industry. The first speaker announced for this year’s line-up is Rian du Plessis, CEO, Phumelela Gaming & Leisure Ltd.
Leaders in Racing is an exclusive, invite-only summit for 250 senior executives in the horse racing business, from governing authorities, broadcasters, betting operators, racecourses, owners, jockeys, sponsors and government representatives. Following 6 months of dedicated research, and guidance from an expert Advisory Board leaders from The Jockey Club, Betfair, Racecourse Media Group, SIS, Channel 4, Racing Enterprises, Godolphin, Highclere and Phumelela, a number of key topics and guest speakers have been identified for the 2013 programme.

Rian, who was appointed CEO of Phumelela in 2008, will cover progress of international comingling, the continued globalisation of the industry and the opportunities for stakeholders in the sport. Phemulela currently operates tote betting in seven of South Africa’s nine provinces and conducts horseracing in four, with plans for international expansion to 50% of total profits in the next three years. In this exclusive session, Rian will share the international initiatives used by Phumelela to ensure a solid platform for racing’s long-term viability.
